Scott Barrie, MSP for Dunfermline West, today welcomed a delegation of German healthcare professionals on a two-day information gathering visit to The Richmond Fellowship Scotland.
The delegation, comprising a mixture of practitioners, managers and service commissioners were keen to study The Richmond Fellowship Scotland’s approach to community-based provision for people with learning disabilities. They visited two local services and received presentations on how the work of the organisation impacts upon the lives of supported individuals in Fife. Their visit also included a meeting with the West Fife Community Support Service at Cowdenbeath Resource Centre.
Commenting on the visit, Helen Halpin, Director of Quality & Service Development at The Richmond Fellowship Scotland, said:
“I’m delighted that Scott Barrie is taking the time to welcome this delegation from Germany. I’m sure he recognises the key role The Richmond Fellowship Scotland plays in providing high quality mental health services in Fife. It is significant that these healthcare professionals are aware of our success in service provision and are keen to learn from us.”
The German delegation work for Paulinenflagen, a large day support service near Stuttgart. Following the probable acceleration in the closure programme for long-stay hospitals and institutions in Germany, the group are interested in studying the Scottish approach to community-based services for people with learning disabilities.
Both Paulinenflagen and The Richmond Fellowship Scotland are members of the Online Project – a transnational partnership aiming to open up access to ICT learning opportunities for people with learning disabilities.
