Positive Behaviour Support Team recognised at research conference

The Richmond Fellowship Scotland's Positive Behaviour Support Team today received recognition for its work in the field of learning disability research.

Behaviour Support Team Manager, Anne McDonald, was invited to present the team's findings to the prestigious Seattle Club, an organisation which hosts an annual conference showcasing the latest research in intellectual and developmental disabilities

Anne described the use of the Multi-element Model for assessment and treatment of challenging behaviour in a man with severe learning disabilities, demonstrating the resulting decrease in challenging behaviour and his increased participation in activities.

Commenting on the conference, Anne said:

“It’s a great honour for The Seattle Club to recognise the work of The Positive Behaviour Support Team by inviting us to present at the conference. My colleague, Linda Hume, spent a lot of time working alongside the service staff to implement a Multi-Element Behavioural Support Plan using the La Vigna model as well as introducing a Periodic Service Review which measures the level of implementation of the recommended Behaviour Support Plan. We were delighted with the results which showed a huge reduction in this man’s challenging behaviour and increased participation in activities.”
