The Dumfries-based Family Placement Service has been added to the Community Care Works Database of Good Practice, a subscription-based information service for the community care sector. Established in 1994, the database is managed by the Glasgow School of Social Work at Strathclyde University and provides a central point for gathering and disseminating information about community care initiatives.
Commenting on the inclusion, Locality Manager Andy Jack, said:
"Nomination to the Database of Good Practice is quite an achievement but to be included is something special. The Family Placement Service is delighted to be considered worthy of this. The service is unique to The Richmond Fellowship Scotland and Dumfries & Galloway, and to be recognised in this way is a great reward to Frank, Lynda and Ann who have worked so long to achieve this. It is also an honour for the organisation and to the local Commissioners who have had the faith and insight to fund such an unusual and innovative service for the last eight years.
"We hope its inclusion will encourage other Commissioners to read about it when they access the database and that it will raise the profile of family-based support for vulnerable adults across Scotland. It is a viable alternative to institutional options for respite or long-term placements for people. The service provides homes with families in the community, something most of us take for granted but many people would love to be part of and which is inclusion in its truest sense."
