The Barnraws Service in Dumfries has been awarded the Silver Award by Healthy Working Lives (HWL), a partner organisation which rewards employers who demonstrate commitment to improving the health and performance of their workforce.
Minister for Health, Shona Robison MSP presented the award to Service Manager William Johnston, Support Worker Craig Bowron and Support Assistant Lorna Hainey at the awards presentation ceremony at the SCVO Office in Edinburgh on 15th January.
The Barnraws Service also received confirmation that their (SHAW) Bronze Award would be converted to an HWL Bronze award.
The service was recognised for its efforts over the past year towards meeting a number of criteria including identifying and supporting the health & safety needs of staff, promoting healthy eating, physical activity and the mental health & wellbeing of both staff and the wider community.
Locality Manager, Andy Jack, said:
"I would like to pass on my congratulations to the Barnraws staff team for achieving both the Bronze and Silver awards. This reflects enormous credit on the service, particularly William, Craig and Lorna who have been instrumental in taking things forward so far and so quickly.
"I am delighted that they were all able to attend the awards ceremony in Edinburgh and represent not only Barnraws but The Richmond Fellowship Scotland at such a prestigious event. The fact that Barnraws were in the first tranche of awards nationally is also worthy of note and I am sure they will be working hard towards the gold award next. I think this is an excellent example of what can be done at service level to improve working lives for staff if staff have the drive and commitment."
In February 2007, The Scottish Centre for Healthy Working Lives was created to unify the successful Scotland's Health at Work (SHAW) national award scheme, Safe and Healthy Working and the business and employability strands of Scotland Against Drugs for national delivery.
Congratulations to everyone at the Barnraws service who have worked so hard to win these awards.
