New Learning Disability Service in Moray

The Richmond Fellowship Scotland has successfully tendered for a new service in Moray for adults with learning disabilities and autistic spectrum disorders.

The Maybank Service in Forres will open in Autumn 2008 and is designed to accommodate seven people with a range of behavioural issues. The service will provide 24-hour support and employ 34 members of staff, many of whom are experienced workers drawn from existing services in the area.

The property is currently being upgraded to provide each person with their own bedroom and en-suite bathroom/shower room. The house includes five large communal areas including a conservatory and is set in large, mature gardens by the River Findhorn.

The £0.8 million contract with Moray Council further establishes The Richmond Fellowship Scotland's reputation as one of the leading social care providers in the Moray area.

Sarah Thompson, Locality Manager, said:

"In awarding the Maybank service, Moray Council has recognised the excellent services we already provide in the area; it is a huge achievement and a great compliment for our whole staff team.

"We currently support three of the individuals who are moving into the house and we look forward to ensuring that they receive a consistent service, minimising any anxiety as they make the transtion to their new home. With the comprehensive support of our staff team, these individuals and the others we plan to support will have many opportunities ahead to lead independent and fulfilling lives.

"We look forward to continuing to work jointly with the Community Learning Disability Team, creating and developing opportunities for the people we support."
