Parents’ weekend retreat success

Wednesday 8 April 2015

Caroline and TiaIn February two members of the Positive Behaviour Support Team, in collaboration with PASDA Edinburgh www.pasda.org.uk  facilitated a stress management weekend for the carers of people with Autism Spectrum Disorders at Peebles Hydro.

The weekend consisted of two workshops: Managing Stress and Anxiety for Ourselves, and Managing Stress and Anxiety for our Loved Ones. Both of these workshops included guidance around stress and anxiety as well as introductions to practical management tools and how to use them effectively.

Family members were also offered a 1:1 session with a Behaviour Support Advisor to discuss any specific issues that may be concerning them, or to talk further about some of the strategies which were covered in the workshops.

Family members were offered full use of the facilities at Peebles Hydro including Spa Treatments to help them enjoy a stress-free weekend. The feedback from the weekend was very positive:

“It was great to be given so much practical information and strategies to use rather than just theory.”

“It was useful taking part in the practical strategies to help with my own stress and anxiety.”

“I gained new ideas on how to deal with my sons who are very different to each other.”

“The training made me think about how I see myself.”
